First Appointment
What to Expect at your Appointment
At your first appointment, I’ll ask for a detailed history of your problem and some questions about your medical history in order to identify any pre-existing conditions. I’ll then carry out an examination which might include testing your movement, strength, posture and specific structures of your body such as tendons or ligaments.
Following assessment, I will explain my clinical diagnosis to you and my suggestion of how to proceed with treatment. Not all conditions can be resolved within a few sessions or over a short space of time, but I will try to provide you with rough timescales.
Please note that patients under the age of 16 must be accompanied during treatment sessions.
What to Wear
Depending on the area of injury or pain, you may wish to bring a vest top or a pair of shorts with you.
You may be moving around a lot during your first appointment so I can examine your posture, movement and gait. With this in mind, I’d recommend that you wear clothing that you feel comfortable in and can easily move around in.
Clinical Diagnosis and Follow up
I will usually suggest a range of suitable exercises and stretches for you to do at home (I call it your homework!) in order to speed up the healing process. The work you do at home is just as important as the work we do together in clinic and doing your homework as I set out to you will only speed up the healing process.
